What is Attachment?

An email attachment is a file included in an email. The purpose of sending an attachment or multiple attachments is to let the recipient receive a particular file.

The most common email attachment examples include:

  • Images (PNG, JPEG)
  • Videos (MP4, MKV)
  • Audios (MP3, WAV)
  • Documents (Word, PDF)
  • Archived files (RAR, ZIP)

Regardless of the email service you use, there should be a button to add an attachment so long as the file’s size is not too large. After receiving an email, the recipient can open the attachment directly in their email account or download and save it on their device.

However, keep in mind that if the recipient is not expecting an email with an attachment, they may be reluctant to open it because of security reasons.
